GrandDaddy Purple was founded and introduced into the Bay Area by Ken Estes in 2003. Soon after its introduction the demand was so high for GrandDaddy Purple that growers started calling any bud that had the slightest coloration of purple Grand Daddy Purple or GDP. Ken was aware that many growers were misrepresenting his strain and they were also growing inferior medical marijuana (MMJ) and calling it GDP. Due to this Ken, decided to re-brand his strain as Grand Daddy Purp. This would ensure that patients would continue to receive superior strains of medical marijuana.
